The 'sick' agencies have been identified
Tawau: Minister in the Chief Minister's Department Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh said the State Govern-ment has identified several ailing agencies for privatisation under a management buy-out exercise.
According to him, these agencies had been a losing concern without acquiring notable profits despite being accorded substantial allocations by the Government yearly.
These include Sabah Fish Marketing Authority (Safma), Ko-Nelayan, Sabah Forestry Development Authority (Safoda), Rural Development Corporation (KPD) and Permodalan Bumiputera and it would depend on the Government to arrange for the necessary distributions under its privatisation exercise, he said.
Ghapur said this after a meet-the-people session in conjunction with the visit by a senior Umno leader Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who is also Perlis Menteri Besar, here Saturday.
On the current Ops Nyah II Berpadu drive to weed out illegal immigrants, he said the success would depend greatly on cooperation from the people.
He said this when asked to comment on a recent statement by Balung Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Manan Jakasa that illegal immigrants had been seen setting up new squatter colonies.
He claimed there were now 57 new illegal structures at Tinagat, 92 at Wakubah and 147 at Indrasabak involving more than 2,000 illegal immigrants believed to have fled from Kampung Ice Box, he added.
Ghapur pointed out that the Government would no longer tolerate the presence of illegal immigrants or compromise with the mushrooming of new squatter colonies in the State.
On the forthcoming Umno General Assembly, he said that Tawau Umno had adopted a resolution to express solid support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad's leadership.
Addressing the session earlier, Shahidan urged Umno and other BN component parties to resolve issues and problems confronting them through amicable discussions within the context of unity and understanding.
