Knoda is freezed 3 years ago.
The libraries it depends on are not part of present distributions.
They have been updated and knoda cannot run with the updated libraries
versions .
In order to run knoda under an updated distributions you need install
old versions of libraries that could not co-exist with the updated
version automatically installed with distribution.
One easiest solution for me is to install an old distribution version
supporting knoda as a virtual machine.
I use slackware and virtualbox as virtual machine manager.
My present distributions is slackware-13.37 and I install
slackware-12.2 as a guest OS under virtualbox-4.1.
Knoda is installed under slackware-12.2 ( a 2008 version) with all
libraries it needs.
Actual performance is excellent and starting the virtual machine is
very fast. And you don't need to stop the work you are doing in the
host OS in order to run knoda.
I've spent so much time with the tricks to run knoda on every
distribution update.
I think a better investment of time is to learn how to install and use
a virtual machine manager as virtualbox.
Unfortunately there is no alternative to knoda up to now in the open
system world.
I hope this can help you too.

Difficulties Loading Knoda.
I am currently running MintLinux LMDE which is a Gnome Desktop
using the
Testing version of Debian.
The latest 201108RC version is reluctant to load Knoda alongside other
applications running KDE 4.6.4.
In the past providing that you loaded Knoda with KDE3.5 before you
loaded later versions of KDE all would be well.
Under my present setup this no longer works. Problems arise when you
try to load copies of kdelibs-data and kdelibs5-data.
The second package loaded tries to reinstall a file on top of one that
has already been installed.
A solution that appears to work for me is as follows;
Load the KDE 4.6.4 apps first because these will demand a lot of
packages.
When these apps are in then load Knoda initially using "dpkg -i
--force-overwrite kdelibs-data_3.5.10.dfsg.1-0lenny4_all.deb".
You should then be able to install the remainder of the packages that
you need in the way that suits you.
I hope this helps you carrry on using Knoda.

As you say it is awkward having to fiddle about with old software.
I have a folder with all of the necessary programmes in so I do not have
to search. This latest instance referred to above is the first
'abnormal' procedure that I have had to use.
Your idea of putting it in a VirtualBox, or presumably a Vmware box
sounds attractive especially if you can prepare a ready built 'Knoda
box' that you can transfer from machine to machine. Presumably with
your idea the Box will also contain the database.
