Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I received an agreement by HL7
international this morning to provide an updated version of the HL7 database
so that newer versions of the standard can be added to the message
libraries.

HAPI has been on the back burner for a while here at University Health
Network as a result of other priorities, including HL7 v3 activities, but
I've now got some time to move HAPI along, so I'm going to try to get that
going. My plan is to have a beta release for HAPI 0.6 out within a week or
two and to start working in some of the great patches I've received in the
last year or so.

I'd like to ask the community a few things.

1. Does anyone have any good conformant sample 2.5.1 / 2.6 messages that
could be worked into some test cases? Our standard here at UHN is still 2.5,
so I don't personally have much experience with the changes beyond that.

2. Are there many people who have customizations to HAPI core classes (ie.
PipeParser, SimpleServer, etc.) and are building custom releases themselves?
The reason I ask is that I am looking to move the official build over to the
Apache Maven build system, and I don't want to cause a lot of hard work for
anyone. Hopefully in working with anyone who needs it, we can come up with a
way to simplify custom builds.

3. This isn't so much related to the core HAPI library, but does anyone have
any experience in using HAPI to develop interface engine unit tests?
Something that has been on my mind for a while has been to come up with a
standard suite of tests where I can (for example) fire 10 messages into my
interface engine, trap all of the translated messages that come back out,
and compare them to a set of expected output messages, ignoring certain
fields (message timestamps, control IDs, etc). If anyone has done anything
like this, I would be really interested in talking with them.

Cheers, and I'll keep everyone posted. Please feel free to get in touch with
me for more information, offers of help, new patches, etc.
