C# isn't used because it's not widespread (yet). Makes it difficult when it just RTM'ed not long ago. I can tell you future plans will definately include managed components and applications that will be ran using the CLR. To whomever it was that thought C# was amusing to do any development with, I can put any reservations you might have at ease. I work for Microsoft, and am one of the developers wrapping the DirectX COM interfaces for support through the managed layer. Performance numbers are anywhere from 97%-99% of the core COM layer, through either VB.NET or C#. It's a completely viable solution for RAD and high speed multimedia.
And yes, we use VC++ for almost every single app out there. The OS itself is written using it as well as ASM for high frequency calls. Just to clear the air on something else, the one person who mentioned that VB isn't that bad anymore is right on the money, considering that VB5 and up use the same compiler as VC5/VC6. With VS.NET, they all use the same CLR. _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlcoders
