Notice that Sprites are more fun than models. Check Carma1, then play Carma2 and cry. Or play Duke Nukem, and then try to search fun on any DN clone (....searching... .searching..... Fun Not found. )

The reason its... not always cutting edge its a good idea. Yea, D3 light
its dynamic, but its too slow for deathmach and other uses. And artist
may not use everything learned because you need to design D3 textures
flat, THEN add another texture for shadows.

Imho, the HL2 design and artistic work whas a smart masterpiece.

Another reason you may dislike D3 textures its because.. Who know how a
Mars undergroun base look? Its imposible to scan real textures or
something similar, this its good for artist because feel free to do
anithing, but anithing its not always good. Its better to force artist to
do exactly what you need, this make artist angry but the result its much
better, better inmersion.

But with HL2 you can figure out some stuff on real citys:

...this can help artist and games to have a better inmersion.

This effect also work on mods. Realistic ones (Ww2, etc..) have detailes
weapons, but sci-ones are somewhat undetailed because.. hell.. no one
know how a real "zapper-zinger-laser" look, so everything may work.

I really hate that because I love sci-fi :(

Sorry my english.
