I already have it setup to force the person to have to fire again or the
weapon will not fire.

Same goes with single round fire. They have to press fire button again to
fire another round.

Or you could always do it "properly" and use the shotsfired count that's already in there to handle it. If (gun in burst mode && m_nShotsFired >2) //3 shots per trigger press return; //don't fire again till they release the trigger

that's what happens with a real gun according to all the manuals I've read.
It's like full auto, except it stops firing after x amount of bullets fire
(depending on the switch) requiring you to let go of the trigger.

heh.. why dont you just use a think function for the weapon to call the fire method x amount of times even y amount of time in an interval, increasing m_iShotsFired (or something) until its larger than x, then stop the think
