This happens when people start a new topic by replying to a post in an existing topic. It makes for some really monster threads, especially when people reply to a thread that's really old in the first place. Mike was kind enough to solve the problem where Valve employees reset the threads, now if only people could create them correctly, this list would be easy reading.
I'm not quite clear on what exactly you want us to do, or not to do.
