I had this same problem yesterday..What worked for me: opened the SDK
launcher, selected the MOD as the active app...restarted Steam, and
opened the SDK launcher again..then ran studiomdl from the command
line.  Some folks also claim the opening another model in your MOD
with hlmv.exe is also a good idea to ensure Steam is mounting the
correct mod.  Hope this helps.
