I fixed the problem. I simply didn't understand the difference between a view model and a player model, and so I was getting frustrated because putting in all this w_stunbaton stuff wasn't fixing anything, but now I have it.
For future reference, the models from "half life 2 deathmatch.gcf" have better animations than in "source models.gcf". I will see what I can do to document this on the VDC.
