Shaders only work ATM in the /beta /orangebox sdk which you have to opt 
into, and even then there's a certain amount of tweaking you have to 
do.  Check out the posts in "Orange Box SDK Beta (Not L4D)" thread by 
me, Garrett, and [email protected] for more info.
