I had it downloaded full within 1 hour of the first post telling us pre-load

I don't think the state of CS Source need have much impact on the release of HL2. Sure it would be nice to have it in as playable a state as possible, but CSS can and will be updated continuously through Steam anyway, so I would hate to see it hold up HL2's release unnecessarily. By contrast HL2 itself needs to be perfect out of the box since you can't rely on patching for SP games so much (at least not as far as reviews and first impressions are concerned).
