I run a Cisco 2621 router with a Sonicwall Firewall. I know the 2621 is not your typical consumer grade router but I have three t1s on an enterprise network so... I have not had any issues except for the lack of traffic as of late (shot intended...)
Sonicwall Firewall just won Clear Choice aware for Network World for redundant connections for broadband firewall router. They are more expensive then your typical LinkSys. I have run LinkSys routers on other networks in the past and they have (in the past) had limitations on the connection table. Limiting the number of connections through the router to (if I remember correctly) 1000 (I maybe mistaken) But the newer versions might not have this limitation maybe someone else knows. I also have heard the Linux version of the firmware for the LinkSys is much speedier, although I have not tried them..
