Quite true. The beta of Windows Server 2003 64 bit edition is available to all MSDN Universal subscribers and Microsoft Select licensing customers.
The issue isn't so much the operating system, it's the application itself (SRCDS/HLDS). A 64 bit operating system will run a 32 bit application in emulated mode, incurring performance penalties. Thus, a 32 bit HLDS/SRCDS will actually run _less_ efficiently on a 64 bit Windows than it would on a 32 bit Windows. 64 bit technology is in its infancy, and 64 bit chips are really of no benefit until 64 bit applications become more widely available. Right now their use is limited to specific niches of the corporate sector, with very large databases and other specialized applications. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of List Keeper Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 11:06 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [hlds] amd64 cpu compairson Why would that be, there's a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003 readily available. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jason Weisberger" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 10:45 PM Subject: Re: [hlds] amd64 cpu compairson > There isn't one.
