sv_unlag 1 (in autoexec.cfg or server.cfg) enables lag compensation, its on pr. default. sv_maxunlag 1 (also in autoexec.cfg or server.cfg) decides how far back should be compensated, the default setting of 1 is 1 second.
on my linux servers it says" players: backwards min/max" (and i havent noticed it with default maxunlag, only when i tweaked it lower, then again i havent monitored it that much, and it doesnt appear in the logs, only console)

My server is pretty smooth almost always, so not sure if I need that setting. I will look in the cvars to see what it is set to when this update completes.

Any chance in getting this error verbatim? Does it show up in the console or elsewhere? If in the console, when does it show up?
