well, there could be any number of reasons. It could have been
transient load on the line as a whole from whoever is supplying that
box's connection. Could be a lot of things not in your control. But
the chances of simply installing something that tweaks disk cache
sizes and things of that nature aren't likely to help. Maybe there are
still issues with the win32 server that valve has to fix, too. The
linux server just seem to generally be more stable and trouble-free.
Perhaps you can look into getting a linux box or switching OSes on
that box. If that's not possible, well, hopefully it can be figured
out.
