We use the GUI internally. It is slightly more expensive (it must blit to the screen rather than using native win32 console functions) but on any modern CPU the difference will be negligible. The GUI gives you better visualization of your servers state (especially with the budget panel turned on), the console lets you do things like run the server inside programs like gamehost.
