I recently started playing dod again a bit. I noticed last night my server list was only showing a few servers. Is something going on with steam or is my computer glitched? Usually there are tons of dod servers on the list that meet my filters (not full, has users, secure, not password protected, <150 latency). As of last night I get only a few. I changed all the filters thinking perhaps it was a really busy night or something but still no dice. I thought perhaps steam had updated or something and either I was missing the update or the servers were. I don't see an update though. I only show about 20 servers now with all the filters turned off. When I put my filters back I get 0-4 or so showing up. But then when I go to "history" I show servers that aren't on the other list for some reason. Maybe I need to reinstall steam or something. It was working fine a day or two ago though.
I'm wondering if it is a firewall thing so I turned off my firewall. The only other thing is I recently downloaded the "malicious code fix" update from the windows update site. I think I have played dod since then without this issue though but I not positive. I don't really play the other games but I suppose I should see if half life or cs are having the same server issues
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Update: It appears to be something going on with my ping. When I take off the <150 latency filter I get over 300 servers. I checked my bandwidth and it is showing my ping is 1764.7 which is faster than a full t1. I found this suprising because it used to read in the dsl range even though it is cable modem. They have been doing work on the cable though. So apparently it is faster now.
As far as steam/dod goes though I am showing about 150 latency on servers I would expect to be less than 100 on. I ran lavasoft add aware, spybot search and destroy and spywareblaster last night after I noticed this stuff going on. Add aware showed 5 issues which I removed. Other than spyware I can't figure why this thing is suddenly glitched out. I think I may have changed one of my settings in console in a game lately but it didn't seem to make any difference whatsoever in fps at the time. Now I can't remember which setting it was. Someone in a game told me it should improve my fps. I remembered that it was one of the tweaks I had used before so I did it. It was late night though. I can't remember what it was now.
Is there a handy list of the console tweaks around anywhere any more? I had some links on my old computer to various forums. I'm looking for tweaks (not cheats of any sort) to optimize my performance and perhaps help trouble shoot the issue I am experiencing.
