I connect to console and when i check interact with desktop, I can see the hlds window wether the process is running as the same user as me or local system, I personally use remote desktops as part of the windows 2003 server adminpak (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c16ae515-c8f4-47ef-a1e4-a8dcbacff8e3&displaylang=en) as I have a number of servers. It is possible to connect with the remote desktop connection but you need to add some more parameters to the mstsc.exe file to force it to connect to console but im not entirely sure what those are, google had the answers for that for me a while ago if you want to have a look...
