Also, there are replacement skins out there that cause player models to shine red or blue through the walls. It's not a hack so VAC2 won't detect it (VAC2 doesn't check skins). The most common cheat that clans use are wallhacks or replacement skins, so it's very possible they were using one of these. I've definitely experienced it myself.
