okay,
I tried the update, you posted below. I watch it verifying the files below,
it then does the following
Verifying: .\bin\datacache_i486.so
Verifying: .\bin\dedicated_amd.so
Verifying: .\bin\dedicated_i486.so
Verifying: .\bin\dedicated_i686.so
Verifying: .\bin\engine_amd.so
Downloading: .\bin\engine_amd.so
Could not open file .\bin\engine_amd.so
I would assume that that last bit about fail to opne engine_amd.so would be
the cause of the problem
I can try putting a command line to start the server with, but it gives me an
error that their is no such directory, even though the DoD folder and files are
on our server
Any suggestions would be appreciated

What You need to do is this:
Win32:
hldsupdatetool -command update -game dods
Linux(in the right directory):
./steam -command update -game dods
Then once that is done, do the command line what other people said.

Where do I go from there. What do i tyoe in for a commnad line.
