Wouldn't it be so much nicer if it just DIDN'T crash...

I think the key was supposed to read:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows

This will not "prevent" a hang, however it will prevent a crash from
waiting for user input before continuing. I can imagine that some
"automatic-restart" systems might suffer if this option is not set to
2, however those systems are likely built improperly.
