Item one, we're not willing to to tell Win2k3Ent.X-64 that it can only use
3GBs of RAM. I'm also not familiar with any switch for HLDS that starts
with
a "/" but we are willing to try anything that does not disrupt any other
service we run on the system. Yes, the Windows platform has been without
an
X64 Valve server and will most likely remain thus so it runs in WOW64. I
can
see your suggestion but you suggest we tell Windows that we have less RAM
than we actually have, unless I'm mistaken, and we added it because we
wanted/needed it and have every intention of using it. We are specifically
looking for a suggestion that will ONLY affect the HLDS servers and get
them
to start on the machine without negatively effecting our system or any
other
service that this server runs.

Don't you have to run your dual opterons in 32bit mode of something,
maybe
something got switched when the memory was upgraded.
Also try the /3GB switch in boot.ini
And maybe try:
/USERVA= This switch is only supported on Windows XP and Windows Server
2003. Like the /3GB switch, this switch gives applications a larger
address
space. Specify the amount in MB between 2048 and 3072. This switch has
the
same application requirements as the /3GB switch and requires that the
/3GB
switch be present. Applies to 32-bit systems only.

I know it doesn't make much sense but it seems you are at the stage
where
you are willing to try anything.
Cheers

Again, as stated either in my previous comments on in the wiki, adding
the
-heapsize switch/value is to no effect as that was the first thing we
tried.
We originally tried it with a larger value but I just attempted a
startup
with the value you quoted and the results are the same. There must be
another answer to this question and you may drop 4GBs of RAM into any
Windows server to see for yourself the results. I'd love nothing more
than
to have a simple command switch fix the issue but "-heapsize 128000"
is
not
it Alfred. As this situation will come to be more and more prevalent
with
the price of RAM dropping and the servers becoming more powerful to
hold
more servers there must be an answer to this on the horizon. By all
means,
test it yourself. "-heapsize ANYTHING" is not an answer.

Please start new threads when new questions arise :) I typically only
look at the first couple of emails in a thread.
Add "-heapsize 128000" to the command line to get hlds to work on
machine with more than 4Gb of ram.

Then by all means allow me to post the answer to why we receive
the
error "Available memory less than 15MB!!!" when we have 4GB of
system RAM and I
would be most happy to post that in any area of the wiki you
direct
me to.
It is a pop-up window that says this and according to
steampowered.com <http://steampowered.com>
<http://steampowered.com
searching for that
phrase continues to be an unanswered question. One that
owners of very large/powerful servers would appreciate the answer
to I'm
sure. If where that question was placed was in error it would've
been for
lack of direction as to where to place it. Deleting a legitimate
question
in
the days of more powerful systems seems a tad inappropriate and
more
suited
to a change of venue versus a complete deletion as it
well-described the
issue in brief but clear details. I would much appreciate the
opportunity
to
direct others that have not received this answer to their solution
but I
will be at the mercy of the developers on this one or someone who
has
overcome this situation. Attempts to create a new thread for this
issue
have
been in vain so I am left to replying to an existing thread. We
are
to
understand from Linux users that they do not have this problem yet
with
HLDS
being "optimized for Windows", as they say, it would be most
helpful to
have
this answer and your wiki seemed like a perfect place to post it.
Beyond
that we come to this list for help and hope that it is to be
found.
I can guarantee that you won't find an answer on the wiki, nor would
anyone
be able to answer your question. The wiki has been up for all of 2
days now,
and definately doesn't contain anything that advanced (hell, even
the
HLDS
for windows setup isn't done yet!)
This list is the perfect place for your question, Perhaps Alfred
might be
able to answer your question. I'm not sure if he'll look in this
thread,
though.
