However, in defense of the poor soul lodging the complaint against Valve the
game, you at least have to understand the frustration that is building out
there. For example, while the version based on the old Half-Life is, in my
considered opinion, STILL a much better, much more stable and playable game,
I've since resigned myself to the inevitability that the Source version is
here to stay. I don't like it very much for reasons too numerous (most of
which have long been "whined" about here). But when I see ridiculous
advertisements for stupid games and "additional content" for DoD or CS, and
almost nothing about the efforts (or lack thereof) being made by Valve to
improve/fix/finish this live beta of Source, it gets quite disheartening.
When you come home and log into Steam and are beaten to death by some update
only to discover that, not only have things not improved, they've gotten
worse, can you blame some people from coming off a bit harsh when they have
the opportunity?

I'm not saying it's productive. But if Valve is really watching, they'd be
having SOMEone reply with SOMEthing to those who have serious issues with
this game. I personally was in NO hurry to see Source come out. And I
still despise Steam...it's just....horribly spiteful. And, as personal
experience would have it, the last update to the game has caused my normal
game play to drop from 75fps down to 15fps...unless everyone is staying
still. And I don't have a bad system either, particularly with a 6800GT
video card. So, it's a free internet, and you're certainly allowed to "rip
to pieces" people who "whine". But your indignation and the fact that they
are whining doesn't make the problems they are expressing any less valid or
Valve's apparent inability to respond or address the issues any less the
cause of ulcers. For people to rip into the "whiners" is no more
intelligent or impressive than those who just whine. In other words, you're
not better, so it would be advisable to get off your high horses on that
subject. If you have a solution to a problem a whiner has, then provide it.

I understand what your are saying. When the frustration gets beyond
belief over basically the same issues everyone needs an outlet... I beat
my dog ;)
Frustration obviously leads to the whining and anger in e-mails that
we're talking about. I guess I'm suggesting the best way to whine.
Grant it, I think that some people are harsh, especially the last set of
e-mails. I personally try not to flame anyone. It's just not
constructive and a waste of time. If you want solutions then it is
better to write e-mails that people can understand, that give details,
and that will move Valve in a direction that is positive to us all. To
find an answer to the issue, right? The frustration ends up going both
ways. For example: Someone writes a e-mail that is un-clear and/or
incomplete (for whatever reason). The person reading it is frustrated
too and so responds poorly. So both start flaming each other... and
what is the outcome?

I'm sure Valve would love to fix it's games so they are perfect. I am
sure that they are trying NOT to break anything when they update. But,
they try and then all they hear is Non-constructive criticism from
frustrated/angry users. It makes them frustrated and therefore they
don't respond as often or, with the solution as some of us would like.
It just becomes a circle of frustration on both ends. In general I
think all of us feel, if you whine in a way that gives information and/
is constructive/, Info people can use then it's ok to whine (a
little?). We should all try and remember that when writing e-mails to
anyone all they have is the writing. They don't necessarily have the
correct tone, attitude or "feeling" you might have had when writing it..
BTW, My dog is available to you all for beatings. Just make an
appointment with me. :)
