Hi All.
I am encountering a weird issue with the HLDS, Steam version, involving map
rotation.

What is happening is this: when I start the server (running Sven Coop and
AdminMod), I many times will select a map that is in a series of 5-6 maps,
like "gitfest" or "dogs" (ie, dogs1, dogs2, dogs3, etc.) to start with. This
is rarely going to be the map that is listed FIRST in my mapcycle.txt file.

In the past, when the map "dogs1" ends, the server would go right into
"dogs2" without any problems. I assume that is because this is how it was
listed in my mapcycle.txt file?

Well, now at the end of "dogs1", the next map that the server loads is the
map that is listed at the TOP of the mapcycle.txt file (the very first map
listed, called 2bases) instead of the next map (ie, "dogs2") that is the
next in the SERIES. After that, it will continually progress correctly thru
the mapcycle.txt file (ie, "2bases", "aaprotazoaire", etc...)

I have a huge list of maps that I am trying to go thru, one map at a time,
and this is why I start at a different point when launching the server each
time, instead of at the very beginning of the mapcycle.txt.

What is causing this? Anyone have any ideas? Is it because I am using the
Steam version this time around?

I am still testing this, but sometimes I go to the server's console and do a
'changelevel' command to jump to the next map in the list, when I encounter
a map I don't care to play. I am not certain if I am running into this
problem when I do a changelevel only or not... I am still testing this out,
but I wouldn't think that a forced map change on the server, using either a
'changelevel' or 'mp_timelimit 1' would really make a difference in how the
server would prgress thru the maps. But I could be wrong. ;) Again, these
map changes are being executed on the server and not thru the client.

Thanks for any assistance/advice you can give.

Take care,
Alan

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Thanks for the awesome
advice Whisper. It's great that forums like this ex= ist to help the n00bs
out. For 2 weeks I've googled and hit the forums loo= king for a decent
answer to this problem and was simply hoping to get a qui= ck "Here's how
you set up sound in CS:Source - Step 1, 2, 3...). So when I= found this
forum, I thought "Finally!"

Once again, I meet only frustration in my search for knowledge.

Thanks for nothing Whisper, you prick. If I had a Thwack stick, I'd shov=
e it up yer ass, starting with the thick end.

Whisper has a point but i'm bored and i'm still abit noobie round the edges
(common ook gimme all you got with that thwack stick) and i hate to see a
guy struggle, ask for help and then be ignored. It's just not fair. So here
we go with the questions. I'll do my best if anyone one's to put in the 2
pence worth then go a head.

1) Are you using some kind of admin plugin/tool. Something like mani admin
plugin or beetlesmod.

2) Are you using any other plugins like the zombie mod or something like
that (i guess that's why your asking the question you are asking)

3) have you checked around the steampowered.com forums or the forums for the
admin plugin you use, if you use one.

that is all i can think of for now but it is a start and to answer your
question about the thwack stick. It is for noobs like you or anyone that has
the idiocy to ask a stupid question (coz to be fair this is a bit dim to
ask). It's basically the same has your mum giving you a clip round the ear
but funnier and harder.

right i've done some checking around coz i'm too dim to know how to answer
your problem with out a bit of research. it seems you can't restrict players
to ct unless you are using the zombie source mod for mani. to answer your
question about how to disable vac (why you would want to i don't know) all
you have to do is add "-insecure" to the the cmd line (without quotes) and
restart the server.

sorry buddy but that's the best i can go.

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] As far as my servers are
concerned the "got steam2 authentication response for unknown user" only
shows up in the console, the message is not logged.

And as far as the time when the problem occurs it differs from time to time,
sometimes a restart doesn't help and users can't connect.
And other times the server(s) are functioning for a while, maybe 12 hours,
and then the error occurs.

And there are no errors in the systemlogs of the servers.

Yeah, the logs don't have anything out of the norm, and I can't reproduce
the issue on a whim. It just "happens."

Basically the server will be running fine, and then people will be unable to
connect. The current players can continue playing, but no one else can join
the server. Eventually the server population gets smaller and smaller.

I went through the logs and everything looks like a normal day at the park.
I can send them anyway if you think they'd help.

i got this on some servers as well. So far deleting the steam catalogs for
the servers and doing an update that then checks each file seemed to fix it.

Having console logs (rather than server logs) would help, if you put
"-condebug" on the servers startup line it will generate a console.log for
you (note that this file can grow very large, so monitor any servers you
make this change to).

I would also be useful to know about machine configurations of people with
and without this problem, in particular CPU and OS details.
