Hmm, I think I know what the won word could have been?
However, since the source mods allow a webpage to open when joining, with
words/graphics of the admins choosing, is the banner ad really so bad? We
could just do the banner elsewhere as stated above.
It was good, and made the server look a bit more pro, I still see some
servers WITH a banner there, tho I think these are valves own paid for
servers?
Go on, put it back in, it can't really hurt at all.
Steve!

After a wander through our source control system, I stand corrected, the
ability to display customer banner ads was removed about 2 years ago. I
am sorry but I do not remember the precise reason (I have a funny
feeling that it involved the "l" word), we won't be adding it back.

HL1 has an in game banner ad (as always), the Source engine has
never had one.

Yes I remember that article and I wonder if it is the same
reasoning behind this. If it was, then, you could say that maps
only allowed by Valve are allowed? Bye bye custom maps? I think we
just need to know WHERE and WHY the line was drawn in the sand.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the advertising firm
placing Subway ads in some servers. Link to article in case you

Only thing I can think of is due to abuse as some people were
advertising porn with them. Why is it needed?
