-- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Thanks guys. The fact of the matter is that this problem occurred on the public servers of a small counter-strike community. I have played on those servers for over a year and the owner seemed to be a nice guy who just wanted to make his community a fun place instead of worrying about making a profit and actually lost money every month.
Well I used to own a small gsp and told him I would be willing to help him figure out the problem. I have began trying to advise him on possible causes and solutions but had little data to go on as I didnt even have rcon. At first I assumed that they were overloading the box (90 cs slots, a website, forums, stats, mysql) but after going spending alot of time going down the checklist of possible causes unsuccessfully, it did make sense to me. So I determined that it must be a bug. The data I had, including the game server stats, added to what I read here on the mailing list, led me to conclude that the problem was the cpu bug. So I messaged the owner the information and reccommended he roll the servers back and I Messaged the irc channel the problem. The reason why I asked for a second opinion on the problem from you guys is because I put a lot of time and energy into helping these guys figure out what the problem was without asking for anything in return, and this is the response that I got for all my efforts: ========================================================= <http://www.opensubscriber.com/message/[email protected]/3706736.html><+Steve> this is the problem: http://www.opensubscriber.com/message/[email protected]/3706736.html <@Admin|ButtSpasm]SB[> no it isn't <@Admin|B-Money> looks likes it <@Admin|ButtSpasm]SB[> measles look similar to chicken pox <@Admin|B-Money> well whats wrong with them? <@Admin|ButtSpasm]SB[> i am willing to bet matt is working on the best course of action for our servers. it is his server afterall <@Owner|Enigma> bet your ass i am. thats always my plan <@Admin|ButtSpasm]SB[> windows server that has not been reformatted in over 2 years is a large part of it <@Owner|Enigma> All CSP servers are down due to maintenance / updates. <@Admin|trak> what are you doing on them matt <@Owner|Enigma> downloading EVERYTHING. All the servers... and the entire website. im moving the website to a different computer. so i shut down all the game servers so that they wouldnt lag =============================================================== HAHAHAHA: Windows server not being reformatted in 2 years. YA THATS THE PROBLEM! WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT.... Last I heard the owner was talking about putting his web site on another box and possibly upgrading his game server box to a dual xeon 2.8ghz and running it with redhat linux enterprise. After thats done he is going to have one of his friends program plugins for it and more. To me it seems just like giving a kid a car when he can't even learn to ride a bike. But what do I know. Guess they didnt need my help after all. Thanks. Oh, and I knew that I probably shouldnt have posted all of this but I figured some of you guys would get a kick out of it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roman Hatsiev" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: < [email protected]> Sent: Friday, April 28, 2006 1:21 AM Subject: Re: [hlds] Mystery Lag at 75% CPU (Dual CPU) usage. > Known problem with latest Win32 HLDS.
