well for a start because the linux netcode isn't flawed i never ever get lag. Also there is a bug in the sound code for the source engine which casues the game to skip. As for some reason the engine can't release the sound card properly from some of the loops, this doesn't happen in linux. I will admit the visual quality isn't quite there but that will come once the bugs in winex/cedega (the linux app used to implement the required windows functions for games to run) are worked out and dx9 becomes fully supported windows will no longer have the monopoly on the gaming market.
I also do think the the linux version of srcds needs work but my server is hosted remotely for me. i just pay the bills. Tht's also why i'm on the windows list as my host agrees the linux implementation of srcds isn't up to it. That's a shame tho as linux gives better speed and is way more configurable that windows could even attempt to be. my final point is the cost of linux and it security. as you may be aware linux is available for free, legally, and also the way the security has been setup is pretty much the complete reverse to windows, ie every new user is created with the minimum rights . also the in built firewall, iptables, is probably the best firewall in the industry. Certainly better than any windows equivelent. hope i made my points well enough for you and have mebbe helped make your mind up as to what you want to use.
