No I use Apache also because I only want my HLDS on my dedicated server and
nothing else.
I'm going for quality server simulation and excellent hit registration for
my gaming box.
Plus I use Apache for my website and other things so it just seemed logical
to use it.

I have one dedicated P4 3.0 gig with a gig of ram and I choose to only run
the one 26 slot DOD server at 1000 ticrate, when I could of course run 3X20
slot DOD servers at 66 ticrate with no problem at all. I tested that out
first thing and they all ran fine even when the box had 60 players on it.

The thing I'm finding out is that even at 1000 tic the server doesn't really
perform that much better then at 2 or 3 hundred ticrate. And there is a
little higher CPU usage at 1000.
So im thinking ill do some testing this week at around 200 or 300 and see
how that goes.
So far it did perform very well at 300 ticrate and the CPU went down a good
bit.

I was in cal for over a year (cal M) and I find that most DOD pub players
either can't or don't notice the lower tic and or FPS settings. But I can
tell you what the FPS and tic of any DOD server on the net is just by
playing on it for a few maps, as long as its running at its peak performance

it's sad that most public servers run by GSP's are run at 33,66 & 100 tick
with stock FPS.
But hey, there in it for the money. I'm in it to push the envelope of what
I can do in a the game.
I been playing DOD for 6 years and there really is no other game with better
hitreg if the server is run right. Stop by will frag some. ;)

I'm downloading Core 5 DVD right now and load a box with it to check it
out. Are you using the Fedora Directory Server to serve files? I
learned on Apache. How's the integration in windows environments?

I prefer fedora core 4, but I'm using fedora 5 right now and it seems
really nice. Hop in the server sometime and check it out.

Right now Jim editing map weapon entities on all of the popular stock
DOD maps so I can have Brit, axis and allied weapons in certain areas of
the maps
and both teams can have all weapons in there spawns. Once I finish
that
ill put the maps up for download on my web site so other DOD server
admins
can just use them. People really seem to dig having all of the
different
weapons availbe to them.

26 slot. Were running bots for a short time, in another month we will
dump them. 64.69.32.190:27015 ****EthugsRus.net[WEST

Which distro do you prefer Kyle? I started on Red Hat. You really need
to be in the Linux game to keep up with all the disto's that come out
regularly.

Theres a good reason people diss winblows. It sucks badly.

You can ask any linux server provider why they use linux distros.
Because linux works at a higher level of performance while the CPU stays
at a lower level of usage, not bottleknecked like windows does.

But of course, if you take a win2003 server with a higher CPU and more
ram it can run just as well as a linux box can on a lower quality CPU
and lower ram.

I have never seen a windows box out perform any fedora box with the same
specs unless you tweak the quantums in the windows server.

I had to restart Winbloze. Linux is looking better and better every day.
Turn on my primary workstation, and I says something about
c:\windows\system32\config is missing or corrupt and windows won't
start, thank you for using Microsoft products. I had to boot to linux (
I have 3 OSs on the box) and restore my winbloze installation,
fortunately I had a backup).

I find this somewhat disturbing. No messages in the event log. Restarted
srcds, restarted hlsw. Won't connect. Restart winbloze and now it works.
