-- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] We all used to have horsepower grunt to run 66 & 100 tickrate servers, but this is no longer the case, SRCDS on both Windows and Linux has goobled it all up. Check the Linux SRCDS list, they are really unhappy about SRCDS performance over on that list.
We used to be able to run 2 x 40 and 2 x 32 100 tickrate servers on our dual core dual CPU opteron with lots of plugins, and smooth as silk. Now we can barely manage 4 x 18 on the same hardware at 66 tickrate with minimal plugins. You could usually blame Microsoft for putting some patch in that has screwed up SRCDS performance, but when its happing on Windows 2000, Windows 2003, and various disto's of Linux on a wide variety of hardware platforms, well whats the common factor here?
