Constanatine won a battle where he was outnumbered when he claimed to
see a cross in the sky and heard the words "by this sign you will
conquer"   he had all his troops but a cross on their shields and won
the battle.   It wasn't an "in" thing to be Christian until after he
declared it the state religion.
