I'll make you a comparison to understand what we and you are talking about:
You park you car (your server) on the 1st of a month in a parking garage (Hosting Company). For 40$ you can park you car there for up to 8 days (500GB). At the end of the month you come back to fetch your car. You drive to the exit, but it won't open. So you go to the counter and ask what's wrong. He then tells you that you parked longer than you ordered and you will have to repay. You say "Ok" and he offers you the bill. 400$ and you freak out.
