While this is a case of "he said, she said" until someone comes up
with the proof...I check the stats fairly often, and I've never seen
TF2 below 4k players at any time of the day.  It'd be difficult to
obtain an average of less than 2k in that case.

You're also ignoring the plain fact that as of RIGHT NOW gamespy is
reporting less than a third of the TF2 players than either of the two
other sources report while at the same time tracking the other sources
pretty closely on other games
