Hi all,
I'm pleased to see Valve implementing some changes to the originally bundled
matchmaking system, but still a little bit confused as to what their objective
is based on its current form.
Navigating in from the main menu we see the new community server list (most of
the time) and are able to click on it to bring up the community server browse
list. From here you can highlight a server and you have 2 choices: 'Create
Lobby' and 'Join Server'. 'Create Lobby' is a bit misleading as it seemingly
has nothing to do with the communtiy aspect that you have navigated to and
takes you to the typical Online Campaign lobby screen - i.e. random server
allocation and player matchmaking. If you choose 'Join Server' on an empty
server then you are thrown straight into it and up launches the game after
seeing the lobby screen flick by for a brief half-second with no control.
Given the current problem with the "sv_steamgroup_exclusive" "1" whereby
outsiders from your community can still connect once a member has joined, it is
currently near impossible to get 4 buddies on our server before it fills up.
Therefore, if we are to accept this system we at least need a lobby to get
everyone in and ready with some organisation. Secondly, if this were the full
game then I imagine you would be wanting to select the intended campaign. I
guess in short my question is, should it be behaving this way and should I be
expecting to see a lobby screen for our community dedi servers (as mentioned it
briefly flicks by)?
Finally, is there any news on an entirely exclusive mode ("2" - entirely
exclusive regardless ?) or re-implemented password system so that upon the
games release I dont find myself "kickid"'ing in a frenzy to get my mates on
our server against the masses.
Still a bit confused by all these hastily arranged changes - but pleased to see
Valve are listening to much-needed change.
Regards, TC.
