Try bypassing your firewall. I run 2 srcds servers here, one behind a firewall, and one in front of the firewall. If I ssh into both boxes and try and download content at the same time, the one behind the firewall takes freaking forever. Food for thought.
E-mail software: I don't use gmail to check the list, maybe there's a setting that needs to be checked. I just use Outlook personally, and others here use ...
