Answers: 1. Only Intel, and only certain motherboards. 2. HPET only gives your processor advanced timing to achieve 1000fps. Yes, you need srcdsfpsbooster in order to run >80fps. If you don't run HPET, you'll only achieve 500fps with fps_max 0.
The answer isn't clear with google. Currently we're running an Opteron 2.4ghz dual core processor and experiencing 43% processor utilization on a full 32 slot server. I have no idea why it's using so many resources..
