I don't think setting a new mailing list up would be a good idea, maybe Valve needs to get some volunteer moderators for the list and just have the list completely moderated (messages don't post until reviewed.)
It is starting to get pretty stupid as of recently. Not to mention it would eliminate this recent spam coming into the board.
