Hi Lane, you are right, my machine is connected to the internet via the router. I tried your options, but frankly i am not that aware about configuring the router. But the good news is that i finally got it working. here is the solution how i did it.
a. I downloaded the tool "HldsUpdateTool.exe" and installed it in my machine, then i opened the command prompt set the path to the directory where i have installed the HldsUpdateTool. b. Once this was done, i used the following command : D:\>HLDS\HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game czero -dir "D:\HLDS" c. This downloaded around 380MB of files related to the Counter Strike Condition Zero game and it also downloaded the HLDS.exe application. d. I started the application and set the network as "Internet" and started the server successfully. e. I launched the game from the same machine and in my favorites it had already listed the server the hosted, and i was able to join and play the game. f. Interestingly, it still showed my home network IP, i asked my friends to see if they can join the game, they too had got the server listed, and since it was showing my home network IP, they weren't able to join the game. g. I went to the site "whatismyip.com" to get my external IP and asked my friends to connect to the game using the console method(pressing ~ and using the command connect <ip>:<port>) and it worked.. :) But i had also missed the port forwarding which you had mentioned.
