I did a test now and clients still can be redirected even if they use the beta version . The servers cannot send to players the "connect" command, but they still can send the "redirect" response for a connect packet (L <ip:port> or something like this).

The problem is that the fake servers won't dissapear because they will still redirect nosteam clients, so if they make the beta public then many players will complain that are not able to join servers. The solution is probably to change the protocol version again or something like this and to list only the servers that are using the latest version. In this way the players using Steam won't see the old/fake servers. New No Steam clients will be released in few days, but at least will be based on the latest version and redirection will be impossible, so the fake servers will become useless in time.
