Personally, I would check for any extra processes running on the box and
kill them (eg, sendmail when its not needed).  I would then nab and
install (assuming linux) 2.4.10 or 2.4.12 if you feel saucey.  Make sure
to have only what you need enabled.  

After I did this I would watch the load closely.

Hmm, if you wanna you can even send me an xload just so I can stare at
it myself

xload -display draco.meatbarn.com &

that will get it to me nicely :) 

(I can see it now, people popping up windows on my box all day long....
could be fun)
