Look at it this way, you maliciously pinged there server with the intent of 'Denying them Service'. Is it still a dos you ask? Of course. Prosecuting for it, slightly different though. If you organised it, chances are you could and would be (consider it like inciting a riot), if you just partook in it, chances are you'd loose your net account. Possibly even be responsible for damages, but i doubt they would (or even could) prosecute 2000 odd users. I seriously suggest you do not even consider going down this path of action. Any remember, now that you have said it here, on a public mailing list, its recorded forever.
