Sounds like you're not using the latest beta server version (Build 2147)
which fixes this exact bug encountered when new VAC security modules are
delivered.. Search back in the list and you'll find some mirrors where you
can download it from.

Recently my users couldn't connect to my server, and when I checked the logs
this line was after every "*name* connected" ->
SV_ReadClientMessage: unknown command char (114)

However, if I reboot the server, it works fine, for a day ( more or
less )...
