cheap?! at $99 per adapter you would be better of to get the scsi drive.
and lets say you had 4 drives in the machine making the total around
$400 (in just adapters).  for that you may as well get one of these:

Personally i am a big fan of scsi for the reliability aspect.  But this
  controller does all the things a bad boy scsi raid card does and a
benchamark i saw says its faster.  read up on it if tech is your thing.
  it's a really interesting product.  i wish i had one to test out.
they make a 12 drive controller too.  uber fast i would imagine.  it
doesn't have any of the limitations common in ide... except the
reliability part (no flames, it's my experience and nothing you can say
will change my mind).
