My reading of that strace is that there is a problem with running the script, it seems to be crashing while trying to spawn /bin/sh (which is real bad, this is a bad system building block). See this line: read(255, "#!/bin/sh\n#\n# Copyright (c"..., 2282) = 2282
for the start of the crash. Perhaps the script file is corrupt? Or perhaps your system is broken (not being able to run "configure" for gdb suggests this).
