I think it has more to do specifically with the RedHat kernel, not the
2.4.18 kernel in general. I run a 16 player on an XP2100+ with a 2.4.18
Mandrake kernel and it never goes over 10%. People on this list have said
several times that if you use RedHat, go back to kernel 2.4.9.
