I am kinda new to this thing here, so excuse any mistakes and stupid things I might make ... just remember the times when you also were a n00b as I am now :) ... also excuse my crappy english please, I am just german :D ...
well, the story is ... this weekend I finally got the time to set up my HLDS/DoD on my dedicated linux server I rented ... specs for the server: P4 celeron 2 ghz 256 mb DDR ram 40 GB HD with 7200 rpm preinstalled suse linux 8.1 root access via SSH 2500 Mbits/s 75 GB traffic included
specs for hlds: v3.1.1.1 DoD v1.0b clanmod v1.81.24e metamod v1.16 HLGuard v1.41 VAC CD 3.2 (but disabled) psychostats v1.9.1 (ok, not really important for hlds :P) halfd v2.19 for admining the server (I am know testing to run it with pingboost 3, sys_ticrate 10000 and sv_maxupdaterate 100 in my autoexec, maybe it helps ...)
I just read through todays mails and I (a total n00b) think, that is should be fair enough to handle ONE HLDS/DoD (also DoD 1.0 does some tricky stuff with the CPU load:P) ...
anyway, I spent the whole weekend (and some more time) to figure out, what linux is ;) ... honestly, three days before I was a total linux n00b, now I got this damn server running (with 16 slots) including metamod, clanmod, HLGuard, cheating death (disabled though), VAC (well, that part was easy :D), psychostats and halfd for admining it ... I am pretty proud about what I achieved LOL ...
so far, so good ... but now I am experiencing significant high ping whenever more then 8 people join the server ... I don´t think it´s the CPU or linux itself, maybe the memory (although I googled around and found pages where they say, that´s plenty of memory for one server) ...
ok, I would appreciate every helping hand :) ...
