Hehe,

you got the point. VAC requires you to fully trust valve in keeping
cheaters away from your servers. You don't even know if there's someone
currently cheating on your server, as vac sometimes bans people after some
time, not immediatley, to confuse those baaaad, baaaad cheaters.

It might be worth considering that is was valve who had you run a server
with a known security hole that allowed attackers to gain full access to
the machine with the rights of the user running the hlds for more then
three months.

Of course this is just my private opinion, and of course valve did a good
job with half-life itself - it's just how they handle some things,
unfortunately it's the really important things imho.
