I have been using Linux for my HLDS servers for years and I have not budged
from that untill Win 2003 came out. I was playing with it and was impressed
that the OS comes, as do most Linux distros do, locked down. It also has a
killer new firewall system built and some realy neat port manipulating
tools. This impressed me considerable and I decided to install a server with
Win 2003. Once the system was OPENED up to my likeing (POP, HTTP, SMTP, HL
ports) I ran NMAP on it to see if anything else was open. Guess what, M$
finnally got somethnig right. The system was secure on the internet without
having to hack the damn registry. Well, with this, I decided to install a HL
CS server and test it. Well, I have been told in the past that HL CS on Win
runs smother and better than Linux (Well, this is what I have been told on
various forums) and I must say that I have been able to get my server
running about 70% to 80% better (faster with more client connections) than
when it was running one Linux. I am using the HL3110c server cause the newer
ones still have issues. My server is a dual p3 866 with a gig RD Ram.

Unless Valve makes a better HLDS server for Linux, I dont think I will be
going back anytime soon. Well, at least till the 2.6 kernel comes out and
blows away Windows Again :-D.

This is my findings and I surley dont want to cause any flames with anyone
who like Linux still. I still LOVE linux and use/administer it where
possible, but Win Server 2003 is sure a breath of fresh air for M$ users and
admins...

Joe
