I'm not having a problem with the hyper-threading, just not sure if I
should leave it on or not.  What problem does the 2.6 kernel fix?

Yes it is possible to bind to a specific processor with a patch. However
it never became part of the kernel because of the way scheduling works
it was a bad idea.

And for the hyper-threading, you can update to the 2.6 kernel to correct
this.
