Hmmm, so why would it say:

Auto detecting CPU
Using Pentium II Optimised binary.

should I add this to the command line?

-pidfile egine_i686.so

or -pidfile hlds_i686

Any ideas why it will not run as a user?

There are three binaries, 486, 686 and amd. p2, p3, celeron and p4 all
use 686
