go into your kernel source and do
patch -p1 <../(directorytopatch)/(patchname)

If you see any rejects then you will have to manually patch the patch in.
( ie
go line by line and add in the code )

Subject: [hlds_linux] Kernel hz patch

Hello, got a question for the hz patch.

I'm using Slackware 9.1 with the 2.4.21 kernel and I would like to apply the
1000hz kernel patch. I don't know how to do it or where to download the
patch(searched on ftp.kernel.org but didn't find it) so if I could get a URL
and what to do when you've downloaded it please?
